Katsina Police Arrest Suspect Over Murder of Nursing Mother, Infant; Manhunt Launched for Accomplice

The Katsina State Police Command has arrested a 35-year-old man, Sahabi Rabi’u, over the gruesome killing of a 30-year-old nursing mother and her 10-month-old baby in Sheme village, Faskari Local Government Area.

Police sources confirmed that the suspect, now in custody, confessed to participating in the crime and implicated an accomplice who is currently on the run. According to investigators, the two men allegedly lured the victims to the outskirts of Sheme, where they murdered them, set the bodies ablaze, and disposed of them in a nearby well.

Preliminary findings indicate that the incident stemmed from a paternity dispute between the suspects and the deceased woman, a conflict which police say escalated into a premeditated attack.

The bodies of the victims have since been recovered, while security operatives have intensified efforts to track down the fleeing suspect.

The Commissioner of Police, Katsina State Command, Bello Shehu, condemned the killing, describing it as “barbaric and inhumane.” He assured residents that the command is committed to ensuring justice, pledging a thorough investigation and full accountability for all involved.

The police appealed to members of the public to provide credible information that could aid the ongoing manhunt, noting that all reports will be treated with strict confidentiality.

The investigation remains active, and the command says additional updates will be provided as developments unfold.
